In this program, Skills embeds our job placement expertise and staff within a high school to provide the schools and their students with immediate access to Job Readiness expertise as well as linkages to employment with our existing business clients and new businesses we identify. Recognizing that many high schools invest in college preparation rather than career preparation, Skills provides a “Jobs 101” curriculum to complement the college counseling students receive. A Skills recruiter – with competencies in attracting and screening talent for employer partners’ job openings– has an on-site presence to develop relationships with students and staff, educate students on job readiness and career pathways, and place students in both part-time and summer jobs while they are in high school, as well as connect them to full-time jobs with career pathways if they choose not to immediately pursue college. Skills piloted this program with two initial Chicago high schools in September 2017 and will expand into two additional high schools in 2018.
